Statement by Ferguson Commission Co-Chairs Rev. Starsky Wilson and Rich McClure

We commend Attorney General Chris Koster and his office for filing lawsuits to enforce Missouri law to stop the predatory practices of municipal courts in our region.

Municipal court reform was ranked as a top priority for the Ferguson Commission by the citizens at our initial meeting. At our meeting on December 15 devoted solely to this Municipal Court Reform, the Commission heard from citizens victimized by these practices. We are proud to help shine the light on the substantive work by the Arch City Defenders, the St. Louis University Law Clinic, Better Together and Washington University School of Law Professor Mae Quinn. Their efforts and the impassioned voices of those in the community have come together to move this issue to the forefront.

Actions speak louder than words, and the Ferguson Commission is pleased to help collaborate to bring change. Our Commission is working towards making a fairer and more just region. We thank Attorney General Koster for taking a stand on this issue.
